Luna Lovegood?!?!?!? That little heifer looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost.
But of course, the rule applies. Pale skin equals innocence.

I found the above-linked blog through an article in Jezebel, and browsed through, appropriately horrified by the racism (as well as massive reading-comprehension fails) so nonchalantly displayed all over twitter. And I admired the author of this blog for calling people out on their horrific attitudes. Then I got to this post, where that same author who is outing people as racists displays a casual, hurtful attitude by calling someone — I’m guessing the actress who plays Luna Lovegood, who just had the misfortune of being mentioned by a random person on twitter — a heifer?
Since this tumblr doesn’t have comments enabled, I clicked the “ask me” button and submitted the following question:

I was directed to this blog via coverage in jezebel and admired you for calling out racism on twitter. Then I got to the post where you call “Luna Lovegood” — I’m assuming the reference is to the actor who played Luna in the HP movies, since you talk about her “looks” — a “heifer.” How can you speak out against racism then be that cruel about someone else’s appearance? The comment was rude, inaccurate, and obnoxious, and it make me take the rest of your blog less seriously.

UPDATE: Although the author of this tumblr, who now has been freaking interviewed by the New Yorker, has not responded to my email, he has removed the “heifer” comment from the post linked above. Good call, dude, but I’d prefer you own up and apologize.

AgainJen…

I found my way to this post when I noticed your remarks on the comment section of the New Yorker article accusing me of ‘Sizeism’.  I had to do a bit of gumshoeing to find my way back to you via this post and confirm that you were the same person.

You mentioned sending me an email (by which I assume you meant the tumblr ‘ask a question’ box), but I was unable to come across it in a reasonable period of time (I’m still looking, actually).  You must understand (and I don’t mean to sound like a braggart…) there are currently over 800 messages in there from users both happy and ticked-off with me that I have not yet been able to address.

I’m issuing this note as a public apology to both yourself, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), and all those offended by my use of the term “heifer”.  It was flippant and immature language that was used in a broad-stroking manner during a time when I chose to use the tumblr blog as a personal venting board.  I offer no other defence for that action.  It was irresponsible.

As you noted above, the term was inaccurate when used in reference to the actress that played Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter.  I absolutely agree, because it wasn’t used in reference to her size.  As one can clearly see physically speaking, she’s QUITE the opposite.

I made an edit to the post after receiving a message in my tumblr inbox (that I was able to get to) by someone who found the word inappropriate.  I apologized to them privately, and made the edit feeling extremely embarrassed about my use of the word.  I’m assuming this was not you as you’ve stated that I have yet to respond to you.

It’s difficult to ignore the irony of all of this, but I’m a huge proponent of accountability.  Again, I apologize sincerely.  If you’d like to discuss further, your best bet would be to message me at my twitter account which gets much less traffic (@hg_tweets)

The first thing that annoys me is her stupid entitled statement about how she “didn’t picture ANY character in The Hunger Games to be African-American”.
Please…
But then she had to go and put the icing on the cake with… “especially Rue”.

Again… she didn’t read the damn book.

Remember that word ‘innocent’? This is why Trayvon Martin is dead.

And there you have it folks

Black children don’t have innocence. We’re guilty from birth

I’m pretty sure from the description that Rue’s on screen portrayal was quite accurate.
But there’s institutionalized racism there for you folks. Dumb bitch.

The racism really spurs when this ignoramus says ” SOME BLACK GIRL”. Like “some piece of trash”. This girl can handstand on a landmine

i don’t understand what part of her saying she thought rue was blonde was racist
in the book, katniss says that when she looks at rue, she sees her sister
tbh the only reason why i thought of rue as being black is because i saw the trailer and saw they made her black
you really need to stop playing the race card because its old and annoying

My friend, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and trust that you’re not here merely to ‘troll’.  The racism is in her implication that being blonde equates with innocence while being “some black girl” somehow removes that innocence.

There is no race card being played here.

Fox Nation keeps it classy.
The headline: Obama Hip Hip BBQ Didn’t Create Jobs. The White House birthday was a private party which, according to the Chicago Sun Times, was paid for by the Obamas. The guest list included many more government officials than celebrities, as if that really matters.
Fox Nation has a tendency to portray the Obamas as irresponsible occupiers of the White House via racial messages, as opposed to a democratically elected president. Note the pictures at the top of the article. The whole “hip-hop BBQ” versus outdoor garden party with dancing inside (as described by several blogs and ABC News) is fairly blatant.
However, the url really gets the message across: http://nation.foxnews.com/president-obama/2011/08/05/obama-parties-chris-rock-jay-z-and-whoopi-while-rome-burns
How dare that guy throw himself a private birthday party AND PAY FOR IT HIMSELF after a ridiculously stressful few months? It’s not like he’s even supposed to be there! YOU GUISE! LOOK! HOW DARE HE?!
